Beyond the villageA short uphill drive from the village take you to Falls Creek (www.fallscreek.com.au) for downhill and cross country skiing in winter and to the Bogong High Plains in spring, summer and autumn for walkers who want to “stroll across the top of the world” and take in amazing vista and visit some of the famous cattleman’s huts.The newly sealed Bogong High Plains Road between Falls Creek and the Omeo Highway now makes this part of the High Country more accessible to motorists and motor cyclists. Rock for the road base came from the construction of the tunnel for the new Bogong Power Station which is located in the village. A visitors centre in the power station is open from 11am to 3pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday http://aglbogonghydro.com.au/bogong-power-station/. A short downhill drive from the village takes you to Mt Beauty and the Kiewa Valley where you can play golf, go horse riding, gliding or paragliding. For those who want to go further afield, there are a range of driving routes which take you to the Alpine Region’s premier wine, food and historic site destinations including Bright, Beechworth, Yackandandah, Milawa, Angler’s Rest and Omeo.
